New Zealand

Tourism opportunities abound in New Zealand – you can travel south to see the mountains, lakes, forests and lush pastures of the planet's greenest country. Enjoy some of the world's finest wines from vineyards of unsurpassed beauty. Visit Queenstown, which has the breath-taking alpine scenery you saw in the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings movies. See the blue Pacific waters where world-famous Kiwi sailors honed their skills.

The challenge will be which of many gloriously scenic places to choose, all within one or two hour flights from Dunedin.

New Zealand is readily accessible with multiple airlines flying regularly.

Dunedin

Dunedin is the country's city of the south, wearing its Scottish heritage with pride. Surrounded by dramatic hills and at the foot of a long, picturesque harbour, Dunedin is one of the best-preserved Victorian and Edwardian cities in the Southern Hemisphere. The accommodation is good and plentiful; the nightlife buzzes with funky bars and delicious restaurants and the natural attractions are unique and fascinating.

Dunedin was named the most beautiful city in New Zealand at the 2018 Keep New Zealand Beautiful awards. Keep New Zealand Beautiful chief executive Heather Saunderson said the award celebrated the incredible inroads into sustainability, environmental excellence and community beautification that New Zealand was making as a nation.
Dunedin's submission highlighted the city's recycling initiatives, focus on heritage, Keep Dunedin Beautiful's volunteer clean-up efforts and Taskforce Green's graffiti removal programme.

Conference Venue

The congress will take place at the University of Otago. Founded in 1869. University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest university and provides a research-led learning environment that is second to none with a richly deserved reputation for excellence.

The University of Otago has won the 2018 Sustainable Campus Category at the Australasian Green Gown Awards, hosted by Adelaide University on 1 November 2018. The award recognises Otago's initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint by a third by 2020 and propel our campus more than halfway towards being zero carbon. The Green Gown Awards Australasia is the first and only award scheme dedicated to recognising excellence in sustainability within the tertiary education sector in Australasia. It aims to inspire, promote and support change towards best practice sustainability within the operations, curriculum and research of the tertiary education sector.

The University of Otago prides itself on making all their buildings, grounds, walkways and car parks accessible to students, staff and visitors with disabilities. We want WCH9 to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. Click here to read about some of the ways the University is becoming more accessible.
